Can I get your service where I live?
Please check out our coverage maps. If you are located in the coverage circles service is available in your area however line of site issues, topography or vegetation might prevent you from obtaining service. The only way to know 100% is with a site survey. We come out with the intent of getting you installed and if we cannot obtain a strong signal then there is no charge for the site survey.
Can I retransmit the signal to other buildings, homes, businesses?
No you can’t re-transmit or re-sell our service to other homes, businesses or locations. This service is sold to a single business household only not unlike your satellite or cable service.
Does bad weather affect my signal/service?
No bad weather in itself will not cause any issues. You should notice no difference what so ever due to weather including high winds, rain, sleet, snow etc.
Does SOL have frequent outages?
SOL has no more downtime than DSL or cable, but each type of system has it’s own unique issues. DSL and cable have many issues with cable cuts, flooded lines, trees falling on lines etc., where we do not experience those types of issues.
What is the difference between download and upload speeds and how fast does this work?
Your download speed is the speed at which you can retrieve files from the Internet into your home network or computers. Your upload speed is the speed at which you can send files to the Internet from your home network or computers. Our minimum account is 4 Megabits down and 1 Megabit up for a combined total of 5 Megabits or 5 Million bits per second. For comparison a 56k dial up Internet modem only runs around 35Kilobits or 35 thousand bits per second total for up and down speeds combined. This means our slowest account is approximately 143 times faster than a dial up Internet modem and our fastest standard accounts are up to 285 times faster than a modem.
With our minimum account you can download a typical MP3 song in about 6 seconds compared to a modem which would take approximately 12 minutes.
